Kenyan Late Entry Wins Baltimore Marathon

BALTIMORE A Kenyan who was a late entry into the Baltimore Marathon took over the lead late in the race and never looked, winning the city's 10th marathon.David Ruto took over the lead in Mile 21, passing Ethiopian Alene Reta, 28, who had led for much of the race. He crossed the finish line with a time of 2:13:02.Ruto was a late entry into the race and paid his own way to get to the marathon. He will take home a prize of $23,000.Juan Carlos Cardona, of Columbia, came in second place.
