Sf Giants On Yankees Manager's Mind

(10-21) 23:13 PDT Giants play-by-play man JON MILLER spends a lot of time with the Yankees because of his side job with ESPN and talks frequently with manager JOE GIRARDI. Miller is calling the American League Championship Series and said Thursday that Girardi is keeping a watchful and wary eye on the Giants' starters in case his team faces San Francisco in the World Series.

"He's real high on the Giants' rotation, as you might expect," Miller said,

Miller said when he called a Yankees game in September,(Girardi) was coveting some of those arms. September for the Yankees' staff was like August for the Giants' staff. They were getting shelled other than CC SABATHIA."

Though the Yankees have looked old, tired and hurt against Texas in the ALCS, and trail three games to two, Miller said New York still would pose a huge challenge for the Phillies' or Giants' excellent starters because Yankee Stadium is a and the offense is full of guys who can reach the fences.

Facing the Yankees is Miller said.

PRAISING POSEY: BUSTER POSEY got a lot of attention in the national press after the Giants won Game 4, not so much for his four hits, but his catch and tag on AARON ROWAND's short-hop throw to get CARLOS RUIZ trying to score on a fifth-inning single.

Rowand was impressed, too, saying,

Though Rowand's throw was huge, he did overthrow his cutoff man. Manager BRUCE BOCHY, asked if he would fine Rowand, said,

KINK IN THE MACHINE: In a now famous (or infamous) online video interview with Fox Sports' CHRIS ROSE, closer BRIAN WILSON was sitting in his apartment when a large man wearing a leather hood and other adult goodies momentarily walked into the picture behind him. Wilson called him

When asked Wednesday about JUAN URIBE's clutch hitting, Wilson said,

BRIEFLY: Until Posey did it in Game 4, the only rookie catcher with four hits in a postseason game was the Cardinals' JOE GARAGIOLA in Game 4 of the 1946 World Series. ... Uribe's game-ending sacrifice fly was the second in Giants postseason history. FRED MERKLE hit the first in Game 5 of the 1911 World Series, three years after his baserunning mistake against the Cubs - - cost the Giants a pennant.
