Fake Terror Plot Suspect Appears In Court

Farooque Ahmed's plan to bomb D.C. subway turned out to be a fake plot orchestrated by FBI

The Associated Press reports that a Pakistani man is accused of planning to bomb Washington D.C. subway station. The plan was commissioned, as he thought, by Al-Qaeda, but turned out to be fake terror plot orchestrated by U.S. authorities trying to catch the suspect.

Farooque Ahmed, 34, was arrested Wednesday morning and appeared Friday in another hearing about his ongoing detention, the Washington Post said. Ahmed has not yet entered a plea to the fake terror charges.

FBI investigation showed in January that Ahmed and an associate tried to contact a terrorist group in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Although he's been in the United States since 1993 and became a U.S. citizen in 2002, Ahmed actively joined the fake terror bombing plot and reportedly trained himself in martial arts, various weapon tactics and more.

A married father of a newborn child, Ahmed can be sentenced to more than 50 years in prison if convicted.
