It seems that the most searched term on Google this morning is GNOC, and it appears that no one knows the reason why. Even Google is having a hard time figuring out what people are really searching for.
A common Internet acronym, GNOC is listed as get naked on camera. Used by participants in chat rooms who see a, usually, girl they like and ask them to GNOC. Since sex sells, many speculate that this is the real reason for the spike in searches for GNOC.
Another, but less plausible, explanation is that all of the sudden the Gambian National Olympic Committee is making news. It is hard to believe that the Gambian National Olympic Committee is making that much news.
On the telecommunications front, GNOC can mean Global Network Operations Center. This is an AT & T (ATT) run control room based in New Jersey which handles anywhere from 1 2 million calls every five minutes. The control room, recently upgraded in 2007, handles 10 petabytes of data daily. If there were an outage at the AT & T GNOC, that could certainly explain the sudden surge in searches for GNOC.
