Halloween's Corniest Eye Candy

When bags of candy corn start popping up at convenience stores and pumpkins litter every stoop in the city, I immediately dust off my collection of Halloween films and begin one fang-tastic movie marathon. Here are four of my favorite Halloween classics that are neither scary nor gory just charming and corny.

IT\'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN

Charlie Brown is completely hopeless, especially at Halloween. He can't score party invites, make a simple ghost costume or even go trick-or-treating without returning home with a bag full of rocks. Poor kid!

Then there is Linus van Pelt, the blanket-toting blockhead who is convinced that a Santa Claus-like figure named the Great Pumpkin is visiting the local pumpkin patch this year.

Based on Charles Schultz's long-running comic strip, is a testament to childhood imagination and the importance of companionship, even if that friend turns out to be a pet rock.

HOCUS POCUS

Max Dennison is a cynical, spook-resistant teen; that is until he mistakenly awakens the spirits of three ruthless witches on All Hallows Eve. Guided by a talking black cat and a superstitious high school hottie, Max must outsmart the 300 year old hags before they wreck havoc on Salem one spell at a time.

With an all-star cast of comedic talent (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy), is both funny and frightening where else are you going to see a witch riding a vacuum cleaner?

Throw in a feisty performance from Thora Birch and one bewitchin' musical number from Bette Midler, and is an undeniable Halloween cult classic.

HALLOWEENTOWN

We all know Santa Claus & Co. inhabit the North Pole, but where do all the ghouls and goblins go once October 31st is over? Why, Halloweentown, of course. Here, there are broomsticks for sale, cabs driven by skeletons and jack o' lanterns on every street corner.

After learning she descends from a long line of witches on her thirteenth birthday, Marnie Cromwell (Kimberly J. Brown) sets off for Halloweentown for the first time. Unfortunately, her welcoming tour is cut short when she must help her grandmother (Debbie Reynolds) defeat dark forces afoot.

As a Disney Channel Original Movie, circa 1998, is as campy as they come but is so much fun that its mediocrity is easy to overlook.

UPCOMING AIRINGS: Oct. 24 [@] 9 p.m. on Disney Channel

DOUBLE, DOUBLE, TOIL AND TROUBLE

Just because Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen ditched the entertainment biz for the fashion industry doesn't mean they've completely erased their acting past. They can still be seen every day during re-runs of the cheesy family sitcom and every October marks the return of their Halloween feature

In it, the doe-eyed duo set off on an adventure to take down their evil Aunt Agatha (Cloris Leachman), a sorceress with sinister secrets regarding the whereabouts of her missing sister.

The ending is predicable after all, the Olsen's can solve any crime by dinner time but Mary-Kate and Ashley are engaging and feisty opposite Leachman's wickedness.

If you're in the mood for adorable fun that's sweet and spooky, you got it dude!
