Sweetest Day 2010 is here! What is Sweetest day? Well, the obscure yet surprisingly popular holiday has its beginnings in Cleveland, OH in 1922. At first, a candy company employee started the day by taking candy to children, orphans, churches, and loved ones every third day in October. He hoped that his giving back holiday would take off in other states, but it has not.
That's not to say that Sweetest Day isn t celebrated today. It is! However, it's more like a Valentines Day in October, minus all the glitz and glamour. Along with Bosses Day and some other obscure holidays, some label it simply a Hallmark Holiday , or one that was orchestrated simply to get people to spend money on greeting cards and small gifts.
That being said, you can still celebrate sweetest day on the cheap. Make your own greeting cards or candy for a really thoughtful and romantic day. Hey, if you need an excuse to tell that special someone you love them Sweetest Day 2010 is your opportunity.
