I threw away all the campaign literature I got in the mail, but kept the Bed, Bath and a 5 rating for Fox affiliate WITI. ABC's network newscast leads at 5:30 p.m., followed by NBC, local news on WITI and the CBS news.

RECESSION? WHAT RECESSION? The Associated Press quotes a research group finding that political candidates spent a record $3 billion on television advertising this election cycle. The story credits, or blames, close races, millionaire candidates and a Supreme Court ruling that eased corporate spending.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT, Fox and Dish Network agreed on a new multiyear contract late Friday, which means local subscribers to the satellite TV service won't lose WITI's signal Monday - which is what would have happened if the deal had fallen through.

COULD THE SIMON COWELL-LESS on Fox compete head to head with the new CBS series from former judge Paula Abdul? on which Abdul is a and producer, premieres Jan. 4, before moving to its regular Wednesday time slot starting Jan. 5.

Fox has not announced an premiere date, but it usually begins in mid-January. This season, it features Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler as judges.
