THE PAIRINGS HAVE BEEN RELEASED FOR THE FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS
In the top bracket, No. 1-seeded Crystal Lake South (9-0) is coming off its best regular season in school history. The Gators will be among the favorites in Class 6A, but they could run into some early trouble. It would be intriguing if they met No. 8 Lake Forest (6-3) in the second round. The Scouts recently handed Vernon Hills its lone loss and battled Lake Zurich before falling on a last-second field goal.
No. 5 Morgan Park (8-1) and No. 6 Hubbard (8-1) are two other teams to keep an eye on in the upper half. Both have been among the best teams in the Public League this season. Morgan Park, especially, could have a shot at making a run. Defending Class 6A state champ Cary-Grove (6-3) is seeded No. 11.
In the bottom half, Lemont (9-0) and Danville (9-0) were given No. 1 seeds. Lemont lost to Danville 18-14 in the quarterfinals last season. Danville then lost in the semifinals to Providence, which did not qualify for the playoffs this season. No. 3 Marmion (8-1) is another team that could push through in the bottom bracket.
